Hurricon Gaslands

Who here remembers Car Wars?

I know I do, it’s where I started in gaming, with an invite to play a couple of sessions at a big town festival sort of thing, where all the model making/gaming/knitting and God knows what else clubs were exhibiting.

I’ve owned Car Wars at various times, plus a bunch of expansions, but finally let it go, because no one would play.

Enter Gaslands. A fairly simple rule set from Osprey, with the fun bonus of using modified Hot Wheels cars as the playing pieces. I liked it on trying it, Jean liked it, and let’s face it, who doesn’t have fond memories of playing with toy cars.

At Hurricon, we ran a destruction Derby race, last man standing, but threw in the twist that eliminated players then chose a new team of vehicles to play, but were no longer eligible for the trophy we had 3d printed.

A great game ensued, helped by the rum and tequila that had also reached the table! This will be run again at Recon in Spring 2020, as it’s an ideal last session game.
